Beneficiaries
Since its inception, the Cathedral Thrift House has returned its net profits each year to fund non-profit Atlanta community charities and special projects at the Cathedral which benefit the wider community and our parish.
Each year, the Thrift House volunteers and staff choose a local charity to receive 25% of its profits earned in the year just ended. Since the beginning of 2000, the Thrift House has donated over $350,000 directly to these not-for-profit organizations. The most recent recipients include The Boyce L. Ansley School, Respite Care Atlanta, and Kidz2Leaders. The remaining 75% of net profits are gifted to the Cathedral to supplement its community outreach budget. Over $172,000 has been contributed to Emmaus House, the Church of the Common Ground, and other Episcopal charities that work to alleviate the effects of poverty in our community.
In the past, Thrift House profits returned to the Cathedral were used for special projects enjoyed by our wider community as well as our parish. Contributions have funded the Cathedral Christmas Eve broadcast, the outdoor labyrinth, the renovation of Child Hall, the atrium elevator, and the renovation of the Cathedral Counseling Center in the Lanier House. Several years of profits funded the $360,000 needed to replace the worn console of the magnificent organ so the Cathedral can continue to offer beautiful music to the entire community.
